One Room School House Part of 2016 Festival
New to this year’s 67th annual Kutztown folk Festival will be the addition of a one room school house experience. The School House is being presented through the efforts of the PA German Cultural Heritage Center at Kutztown University and longtime Festival historian Darlene Moyer of Kutztown.
The school house will be set up with actual desks, wood stove, blackboard, writing slates, and other artifacts that would have been found in an early one room schools house. “School Marms” (teachers) will present several lesson throughout each day of the festival, geared towards visitors of all ages. Visitors will also be able to view materials related to the history of one school houses as well as the history of the Pennsylvania school system.
Festival visitors will want to keep an ear out for the ringing of the school house bell perched high atop the school house, as this is the traditional signal for students to be in their seats and ready for class!
This year’s festival runs July 2nd thru July 10th.
